Italian cuisine is famous around the world for its richness and diversity. Typically prepared with fresh ingredients from recipes spanning generations, Italian food is an integral part of Italian heritage and one of the country’s main cultural exports. Italian cuisine can be found in every corner of the world. But only in Rome can you experience the original taste. Shopping
In Rome, you’ll find a wide variety of small shops selling traditional products, high streets, department stores and top international designer boutiques. One of the most popular traditional products to buy in Italy is pasta. Visitors will find all types of pasta of different shapes and sizes, flavour and ingredients throughout the city. Other products that make great presents are: limoncello, olive oil or vinegar. Rome also has some of the best designer boutiques in Italy. If you’d like to discover these shops, head to Via del Corso, where the most prestigious boutiques are located, or to the streets surrounding Piazza di Spagna, especially Via dei Condotti, where you’ll find Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Bulgari or Armani. Then walk to Via Veneto, where there are other stores of the same standard. Via del Babuino, connecting Piazza di Spagna to Piazza del Popolo, is famous for its antique and art shops. Besides, souvenir shops are found in Rome’s most important tourist spots.

Architecture
Roman architecture continued the legacy left by Greek architects and the established architectural orders, especially the Corinthian. The Romans were also innovators and they combined new construction techniques and materials with creative design to produce a whole range of brand new architectural structures. Typical innovative Roman buildings included the basilica, triumphal arch, monumental aqueduct, amphitheater, and residential housing block.

• Rome has more fountains than any other city on the planet. Modern Rome has 280 fountains and more than 900 churches.
• The Pantheon is the only ancient building in pristine condition.
• A heavenly lightshow takes place at the Pantheon on Rome's birthday.
• Nearly 700,000 euros worth of coins are tossed into Rome’s Trevi Fountain each year. The proceeds are donated to Caritas to help those in need.
• Cats have special rights. Law in Rome allows cats to live without disruption in the place they were born. Wild cats can be climbing the walls of the Colosseum and sleeping among the ruins of the Forum.
• It's technically the capital of 2 countries.
• The Spanish Steps aren't Spanish. Cascading from Trinità dei Monti church to Piazza di Spagna below, these Baroque 18th-century steps were designed by an Italian architect at the request of a French diplomat. The steps were named after the piazza, and the piazza itself was named after the adjacent Spanish Embassy to the Holy See.
• Rome has a museum dedicated entirely to pasta.
• Rome’s first university, La Sapienza, established in 1303 AD, is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world.
• The mascot of Rome is a she-wolf that cared for brothers Romulus and Remus, the mythological founders of Rome.
• The symbol SPQR, which is found all over the city of Rome, stands for “SenatusPopulusque Romanus” which means, “The senate and the people of Rome”.
• The Roman Emperor Trajan built the first ever shopping mall. It contained multiple levels and over 150 outlets that sold everything ranging from food to clothes.
