Furcellaria lumbricalis

Furcellaria lumbricalis is a red-coloured alga that grows on the rocks of shallow waters and is particularly common to the cold northern Scandinavian coast. Also known as Carrageen, Agar-agar or ‘Crab’s bed’, the hardy red seaweed is able to survive in low tides and sandy, dry conditions thanks to its superior rehydration capabilities. The red alga has hygroscopic properties, meaning it readily attracts water and holds onto moisture, making it an excellent ingredient to help revive, soften and revitalise skin.

Key Benefits
  • Skin-conditioning and softening.
  • Helps to revive and replenish dehydrated skin.
Furcellaria lumbricalis contains a structural polysaccharide called furcelleran, which helps to revive dehydrated skin thanks to its hygroscopic and gelling properties.
