TREVI FOUNTAIN

TREVI FOUNTAIN

‘Fontana di Trevi’, or the Trevi Fountain is perhaps the most famous fountain in the world and definitely in Rome. It was designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762. The name ‘La Fontana di Trevi’ is derived from tre via, or three roads, since the fountain was the meeting point of three streets. The fountain's fame is in part the result of the many films that featured the Trevi Fountain, including La Dolce Vita, Angels and Demons, The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Roman Holiday. It is tradition during your city trip Rome to throw a coin into the fountain. Legend has it that one coin thrown with the right hand over the left shoulder will guarantee you a safe return to Rome in the future, while a second coin will have your return met with romance. A third guarantees a Roman wedding! The coins that are thrown into its water are collected by the Municipality and donated to charity.
